There are manias of The Beatles, manias of Sports, manias of Religious and the world newest manias, English Mania. Today, there are 1, 2 billion students learn English Worldwide, started in India, Southeast Asia and China. Even this year China has become the largest English speaking country.
Students in China learn English by screaming it. They have to learn for a gigantic test that literally determines their future and English takes 25% of the score. Now the question is why English? A word answer for this question is “opportunity”. English can open wider opportunity for better life, for better job, for paying the school fee or for better food served on the table.
So, is English a tsunami? That washes away all the other languages? No. English is still the second world’s language. The first one is your native language. However, with English you can become a part of wider conversation about global problem. This world has other universal languages such as Mathematics- language of science, Music- language of emotions and English as the language of problem solving. So English represents a better future, a future where the world has a common language to solve its common problem.
