Why we should let go of the past?

As quoted from www.loc.gov.com : the past by definitions is an ocean of events that once happened; and those events are either retained in our memory or reconstructed by us on the basis of our present experience. In the other word, the entire realm of the past exists only as a poetion of our conciousness. The past itself is nothing. In metaphysical term, the past is perhaps nothing, but in term of our direct experience, the past is everything. It is just the play of time that philosophers have constructed to amuse themselves with as they try to unreveal its mysteri. This mystery is accessible to everyone, but not everyone likes to spend their time thinking about time. It is only philosophers who try to express this everyday experience.

What really matters now is that probably some of us once get hurt in the past. Betrayed by our best friend, hurted by our teachers, trusted in the wrong person, or anything else. Surely everyone of us has a certain past that sometimes weigh heavily on our shoulders, preventing us from stepping forward, holding us down so that we cannot be what we really want to be.

Since the past is something, could be experience, that happened to us before the present- thanks for it-, we are all shaped by it. But mark this one, we are not defined by our past. Because this is our life, it is only us who have power to define and take charge of ourselves , our life, and our future. Let our past be the lesson for us that can lift up our life, build us up. Do not let it be the boomerang which can tear us apart, break us down.

defining yourself by what happened does not help you now. It is like wearing the clothes that is never gonna fit in. So, is it time to take them off? Yes. It is time to take them off. It is time to release the past. Let go. Move on. Because, what you do with the past is probably more important than the past itself. Would you prefer to get back to be an active liver of life? Or do you prefer to ruminate endlessly about the past and something that cannot be changed?

Here are the reasons why you should let go of your past and embrace your future.

First, we should let the past go because we cannot change it.

We have spent too much time dwelling on the past. Saying “ i wish this... that.. those.. these.. ect”. No way you can rewind the time, go back to the past and change the unnecessary part. No way you can do it, not even if you pay the most brilliant scientist to make a time machine for you or borrow it from Doraemon. No you cannot. Summary, you cannot change the past. But, you can choose not to suffer now, not anymore. Learn from your past, let go, then take responsibility for yourself, your present, and your future.

Second, by letting go of the past, you can create space for something new.

Herrmann Hesse said: “some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes, letting go is”. When you release your past struggles, mistakes, seatbacks, and fears, you can make room for something new to emerge. You should know, this world is full with amazing and exiting opportunities waiting to be discovered, also new experiences will be knocking at your door when you allow yourself to close the old one. Brace yourself, everyday is a brand new day.

Finally,you can appreciate yourself.

Your past has shaped you into the special and the unique individual you are today. Realizing it is one great first step to embrace and appreciate yourself. Nobody is perfect. We all carry a certain past with us, when you forgive yourself and let go of everything that happened to you yesterday, you can create space in your heart for the beautiful things the world has offered to you. Then use the rest energy you have to work on the goals and dreams that make you happy. As what Randall Hartman said “ you will never be able to embrace your exciting future until you let go of your troubled past”.

I know it is hard to let go, i got that. But nobody’s life should be defined by their pain. It’s not healthy, it adds to our stress, it hurts our ability to focus, study and work. Everyday you choose to hold on to the pain is another day everybody around you has to live with that decision, and feel its consequence. So, let it go. Let it go for our your own good and for the people around you’s good.

In short, what past is past. The past is good to learn from, not to live in. Let it be the lesson for you to minimalize the mistake and error in the future . All i can say : let go it, then let God fill it with something more beautiful than what you’ve ever imagined .
